Los Angeles trash & bulky-item rules
LASAN provides free unlimited scheduled bulky-item pickup for eligible City residents and also accepts large e-waste curbside, while HHW and construction material use separate routes.

Free unlimited bulky pickup
Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment provides City residents with free unlimited curbside bulky-item collection. Residents schedule online, in the MyLA311 app or by calling 1-800-773-2489. LASAN generally collects the items on the normal trash day and asks for at least one business day of notice.
The request should include an itemized list—such as one mattress, two chairs and a desk—so LASAN can send the appropriate collection vehicle.
Furniture, mattresses and appliances
The current program accepts couches, tables, chairs, mattresses, box springs, toilets, sinks, rolled-and-tied carpet, large pieces of household wood and doors.
Large metal appliances can also be scheduled at no additional pickup charge. This includes refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, air conditioners, water heaters and other qualifying appliances. Refrigerator and freezer doors should be removed before curb placement.
Electronic waste is accepted curbside
A particularly useful 2026 rule is that LASAN explicitly accepts large electronic waste through scheduled curbside pickup. The current bulky-item page specifically lists televisions, computers and monitors.
Residents can also take e-waste to a S.A.F.E. Center or qualifying mobile event. This is one area where older Los Angeles disposal guides can be misleading if they say electronics always have to be self-hauled.
What LASAN will not collect as bulky trash
The curbside bulky program excludes automotive parts and used oil, construction material such as concrete, bricks and dirt, commercial appliances, paints/solvents/chemicals, medicines and needles, and fluorescent lights. Cardboard is also excluded unless it is part of an approved Move In/Move Out service.
Contractor demolition debris therefore needs an appropriate construction-waste route rather than a free bulky request.
Paint, chemicals and S.A.F.E. Centers
City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County residents can use permanent S.A.F.E. Centers for accepted household hazardous waste and e-waste at no residential disposal charge. Typical HHW includes paint, solvents, automotive fluids, batteries and household chemicals.
Current S.A.F.E. facility pages use a transportation maximum of 125 pounds or 15 gallons per visit. Residents should check the selected center's hours because individual facilities operate on different schedules.
Tires and monthly drop-off events
LASAN provides a separate free tire drop-off program for City residents: up to four tires per calendar year at LASAN collection yards, with rims removed. Residents need City residency documentation such as a current utility bill and state-issued photo ID.
LASAN also operates free monthly bulky-item drop-off events at five City locations. The current 2026 schedule runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on designated Saturdays. Event acceptance rules are separate from the curbside program, so residents should check the event list before loading a vehicle.
Multifamily residents
Large multifamily properties in the recycLA system have a separate on-call bulky program funded through the Multi-Family Bulky Item Fee. LASAN describes that service as unlimited, on-demand bulky-item pickup for qualifying recycLA ratepayers, covering items such as furniture, mattresses, doors, carpet, toilets, e-waste and appliances.
