Tampa trash & bulky-item rules
Eligible City of Tampa customers get one annual S.W.E.E.P. collection, but New Tampa is served by Hillsborough County and does not use the City program.

Quick answer
Eligible City of Tampa residential solid-waste customers in single-family homes and properties with four units or fewer receive one prescheduled S.W.E.E.P. collection each year at no additional charge. The normal pile limit is 10 cubic yards.
New Tampa is different: New Tampa residents are serviced by Hillsborough County Solid Waste and do not receive the City S.W.E.E.P. program. Always check the address before relying on these rules.
What S.W.E.E.P. takes
The current program accepts common bulky household material including furniture, mattresses, household appliances, barbecue grills, toilets, carpet, wrapped/taped flat glass, tree limbs and stumps. Railroad ties are accepted when cut to the City's required length.
Tampa also allows up to four passenger tires without rims in a qualifying S.W.E.E.P. pile. Electronics and household hazardous waste are not accepted through S.W.E.E.P.
Set-out timing and construction debris
Residents must follow the address-specific annual schedule. Current rules say items may be placed curbside no earlier than five days before the S.W.E.E.P. collection window and must be out by the published Sunday deadline.
S.W.E.E.P. is not a renovation-debris service. Fencing, tile, pipe, plywood/building lumber, bricks, concrete blocks, rocks, doors, roofing material, windows and drywall are among the prohibited building materials.
McKay Bay self-haul
Eligible City solid-waste customers can self-haul certain household material to the McKay Bay Scale House. Current City guidance provides no-additional-charge resident disposal for furniture, mattresses, yard waste, barbecue grills and up to two appliances per visit, subject to proof of the City utility account and vehicle rules.
McKay Bay has facility-specific rules that differ from S.W.E.E.P. For example, tires on rims can be accepted there under the facility limits even though S.W.E.E.P. requires rims removed. Construction/demolition material is chargeable rather than included in the free household allowance.
Need it gone before S.W.E.E.P.?
Tampa offers paid curbside special collection when a resident cannot wait for the annual S.W.E.E.P. date. The current published rate is $18.12 per cubic yard for acceptable bulky items, with a one-cubic-yard minimum. Residents request service through Solid Waste Customer Service/Tampa Connect and the charge is added to the City utility account.
Household hazardous waste and many electronics use Hillsborough County disposal programs under the City's interlocal arrangements rather than being mixed into the annual bulky pile.
