Peoria, IL: bulky pickup & disposal rules
City confirms weekly bulk and GFL contracted service; verify exact building-material exclusions and appliance treatment on latest bulky page before approval.
Quick answer
Peoria offers eligible City residential customers weekly bulky-waste collection alongside regular refuse, without the small annual bulky-pickup quotas used in other municipalities. City 2026 materials describe unlimited weekly household trash and bulky-waste collection. Prepare oversized items according to the current City collector instructions.
The City specifically discusses furniture and mattresses; refrigerator doors should be removed before collection.
Who qualifies
The City-contracted service is the key; addresses with private commercial dumpsters or outside municipal limits can have different treatment. Contact the City or hauler if unsure.
Furniture, mattresses and appliances
Examples include household furniture, mattresses, certain carpeting and City-listed remodeling discards. Peoria expressly includes wood, sheetrock and some building materials in its weekly bulky-waste collection. The official bulky-waste webpage does not itself establish an appliance-door preparation rule; ask GFL about a refrigerator before setting one out.
Before setting anything out
Put accepted bulk at the proper curb/alley collection point no earlier than 3 p.m. on the preceding day and by 6 a.m. on your trash day. Keep three feet from carts, poles and obstructions. The contractor is GFL and its customer-service number is 309-688-0760.
What not to put in the bulky pile
Electronics, vehicle tires, chemicals, liquid paint, rocks, concrete and soil are specifically unsuitable for the normal bulky route. Heavy renovation or contractor loads can require special disposal.
Where to take other large items
Peoria’s City bulk webpage provides drop-off and material-disposal references; follow designated electronics and household hazardous-waste collection routes for prohibited items.
