Urbana: book furniture collection with your private trash hauler
Urbana operates municipal curbside recycling, but ordinary trash comes from private waste companies. The two are different accounts and pickup streams.
Quick answer
The City of Urbana says private companies supply garbage service, while the City’s U-Cycle program covers eligible curbside recycling. For a sofa, mattress or other large discarded item, contact your private trash hauler for an accepted-item list, any special booking and current price. A municipal recycling day is not a bulk furniture collection day.
What to do
- Step 1. Check whether your property has a private trash hauler through your lease, HOA or individual account.
- Step 2. Contact the company with the precise mattress, sofa or appliance details and request its bulky pickup instructions and quote.
- Step 3. Do not leave large furniture beside City recycling carts without confirmation—U-Cycle materials are separately defined.
- Step 4. If usable, compare donation or local reuse choices listed in the City’s official recycling-resource guide; confirm each organization accepts the item before delivering it.
What about my item?
Private trash-hauler instructions apply; do not infer acceptance from the City recycling route.
City recycling-resource list includes reuse options; contact the recipient for condition and transport requirements.
The City notes some scrap recyclers may accept metal-based equipment; verify the exact material.
Follow material-specific City recycling and hazardous-waste guidance, separate from curbside trash.
Fees, dates and eligibility
The City licenses waste haulers, but hauler eligibility, bulk rates, and collection days depend on the household account. Municipal recycling schedules cannot establish bulky garbage service.
Before setting items outside
Verify the precise service address and current acceptance, costs and preparation requirements with your City or authorized provider. Policies and availability can change.
