Furniture, mattresses and appliances

The City lists appliances, furniture, mattresses, box springs and other household items. The maximum size of one item is 6 feet by 5 feet. Each sectional-couch section needs its own sticker, while a mattress and box spring set together requires one sticker. Televisions are not collected curbside.

03

Household hazardous waste and other special material

Kent County's SafeChem program handles household hazardous waste separately, including paint, chemicals and other materials that should not be placed with a paid bulky item.

Before set-out

Do not rely on a single dollar amount without rechecking. The City's dedicated bulk page and FY26 fee schedule currently show $40, but other official City materials still display lower figures. Confirm the charge at checkout or with Public Works before buying a sticker or online service. Place the item at the curb by 7 a.m. on the following business day after an online purchase, remove refrigerator/freezer doors, and use Kent County options for televisions and HHW.

  1. Confirm the service address and the agency or hauler responsible for it.
  2. Check whether the bulky route requires an appointment, assigned week, sticker, fee or volume limit.
