Greensboro trash & bulky-item rules
Greensboro collects accepted bulky household items every other week on the same day as recycling. Appliances use a separate appointment process, so a refrigerator or washer should not simply be placed with the furniture pile.

Quick answer
Greensboro’s bulky route follows the recycling cycle. Residents place accepted bulk by 7 a.m. on the assigned every-other-week day rather than requesting each furniture pickup individually.
Use the current collection calendar for the address because the recycling/bulk week alternates.
Furniture, mattresses and household bulky material
Accepted examples include furniture, mattresses, swing sets, drained lawn mowers, bicycles, bed frames, rolled carpet, toilets and doors.
Extra bags of ordinary household garbage are not “bulk” just because they are outside the cart. Follow the normal extra-trash rules for bags.
City crews do not collect ordinary bulky items over 50 pounds. The City also describes a two-person handling limit: do not assume a heavy couch qualifies merely because furniture is listed.
Appliances, electronics, tires and hazardous items
Large appliances require an appointment through the City rather than the normal every-other-week bulk route. Electronics, paint and chemicals also need the current special-material disposal instruction.
Call 336-373-CITY or use the City’s current request channel for an appliance.
Large appliances require a separate request through 336-373-CITY (2489); they are not ordinary every-other-week furniture bulk. Tires and auto parts must use a separate disposal route.
Renovation debris and larger cleanouts
Construction debris is not collected as normal bulky household material. Remodeling waste, contractor material and heavy debris should use a disposal facility that accepts it.
Keep accepted furniture separate from yard/construction material so the correct crew can collect it.
Local drop-off options and fees
City transfer-station/self-haul route for accepted waste.
The household HHW center at 2750 Patterson Street accepts household chemicals, paint, batteries and e-waste. It is free for Guilford County residents; a license proving county residence may be requested. Confirm current hours and a specific item with the City before traveling.
