How Albuquerque Large Item Pick-Up works
Albuquerque collects appliances and other oversized household items throughout the year at no additional charge when a residential Solid Waste customer requests service. Pickup normally occurs on the household’s next regular trash collection day.
Submit the request through 311 at least 24 hours in advance. Requests made inside that window may be handled case-by-case. The standard maximum is one pickup-truck load.
Placement
Place large items at the curb approximately 5 feet away from carts, mailboxes, hydrants, parked vehicles, low-hanging trees and utility poles so the collection truck can reach them safely. Contaminated items are not collected.
Furniture, mattresses and appliances
Eligible furniture includes couches, chairs, mattresses, bed frames and similar household pieces. Albuquerque’s appliance list is broad and includes refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, stoves, dishwashers, washing machines and dryers.
Appliances must be empty. Freezer and refrigerator doors should be taped shut under the current City instructions.
Tires, televisions and miscellaneous items
Residents can schedule up to 4 tires through Large Item Pick-Up. The current City list also includes televisions, lawnmowers, water heaters, sinks and toilets.
Because the HHW facility does not accept ordinary e-waste, the large-item service is a useful documented route for televisions when the item is otherwise eligible.
Household hazardous waste
Residential hazardous waste goes to the City/Bernalillo County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center operated by Safety-Kleen at 2720 Girard NE. Current hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8 a.m.–2 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m.–3 p.m.
The current load limit is 125 pounds, with loads no larger than 55 gallons. The center accepts paint, batteries, pesticides, pool chemicals, used motor oil, propane and other listed hazardous products. It does not accept general electronics/e-waste, appliances or tires, although CRT monitors are specifically listed among accepted hazardous materials.
Construction debris
Albuquerque’s convenience centers and normal large-item program are not general construction-and-demolition disposal services. Drywall, roofing material and major renovation debris require an appropriate landfill or private-hauler route.
Self-haul backup
If curb pickup is not the right route, Albuquerque’s convenience centers accept many household bulky loads for a fee. Current 2026 rules list a $5 standard load for residents and businesses within city limits, with item limits including up to three mattresses and five passenger/light-truck tires per customer. Refrigerant-appliance limits vary by convenience center, so check the current drop-off page before loading a vehicle.
