Appleton large items: 2 free April–September, none in October
The City’s 2026 free large-item curbside season ended September 30. During April–September eligible households may set out up to two approved items every other week, opposite their recycling week.
Quick answer
Appleton picks up up to two approved bulky items at no extra charge on regular garbage day April through September, the week opposite recycling. As of October 26, 2026, that seasonal route is over. For furniture that cannot be donated before April, the City directs households to Outagamie County Recycling & Solid Waste, 1919 Holland Road, where fees apply.
How to arrange disposal
- Step 1. Check the City’s Property Info collection calendar for your exact address and confirm you receive City garbage-cart service.
- Step 2. For April–September: put up to two accepted items at least five feet from the cart, tree and mailbox on the week opposite recycling; the large-item truck follows the normal garbage route.
- Step 3. For October–March, such as today, do not put furniture out for a City free large-item pickup. Donate usable pieces or contact Outagamie County Recycling & Solid Waste at 1919 Holland Road about drop-off and charges.
- Step 4. For appliances ask about the separate City drop-off at 2625 E Glendale Avenue; the City lists $30 for refrigerant appliances and $25 for non-refrigerant appliances, and confirms current hours online.
What about my item?
Approved in seasonal free pickup, up to two per collection; sleeper sofas are not eligible.
Explicitly excluded from free large-item curbside; confirm facility drop-off acceptance and fee.
Not seasonal curbside items. City Glendale Avenue site separately lists appliance drop-off fees.
Excluded from large-item curbside. TVs/computers must use an appropriate e-waste collector.
Fees, dates and limits
The City posts the free program for April–September and specific disposal prices for other services. Do not interpret a $8 extra-trash-bag sticker as approval for a sofa, mattress or appliance.
Before you set anything out
Check your exact service address and item acceptance on the official linked page or with the responsible collector. Do not leave large items at the curb when a seasonal event has ended.
