Quick answer

Riverside’s bulky program is appointment-based. Call the City to reserve a collection, then follow the scheduled date rather than placing items out whenever convenient.

The current limit is five items per appointment. The City also says three trash bags of no more than 20 pounds each count as one bulky “item,” with a maximum of 15 such bags if the entire appointment were used that way.

Collection of extra items can consume the second annual appointment. Cancel by close of business on the preceding business day if the pickup is no longer needed.

02

Furniture, mattresses and household bulky material

Furniture and mattresses may use the appointment service. Every mattress must be fully wrapped or bagged in plastic with no exposed area; no more than five mattresses are allowed per appointment.

Items should be at the curb by 5:30 a.m. on the scheduled date and not more than 24 hours early.

For accepted yard debris, bundles must be no larger than 18 inches in diameter and 36 inches long. Large limbs, stumps and trunks are excluded.

03

Appliances, electronics, tires and hazardous items

Stoves, washers and dryers are accepted; water heaters and pool pumps must be completely emptied. Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners containing Freon are not accepted through curbside bulky pickup. Neither are TVs, computers, monitors, other listed electronics, tires or auto parts.

Paint, oils, batteries, chemicals and other household hazardous waste must use a separate disposal route. Do not place these in the five-item appointment.

04

Renovation debris and larger cleanouts

Construction material is excluded from the bulky appointment. The accepted-item list separately permits prepared carpet or padding rolled and tied in 4-by-4-foot pieces, each counted as one item; do not treat that exception as permission for a mixed remodeling load.

If plans change, cancel by the prior business day under the current City instruction so the appointment is not unnecessarily counted against the annual limit.
