Quick answer
Large and excess items should not simply be left loose beside the regular trash container. St. Petersburg directs residents to arrange a Special Pick-Up through SeeClickFix or by calling 727-893-7398.
The City's current page publishes clear free limits: car batteries up to 5, car tires up to 5, doors up to 2, empty 20-lb propane tanks up to 2, furniture/carpet/appliances up to 3 cubic yards, kitchen cabinets up to 2 and windows up to 2.
When Special Pick-Up costs money
Material outside the City's free list—such as large accumulated loads, building materials and brush—is currently charged at $25.65 per cubic yard. Sanitation reviews the request and provides an estimate before paid pickup.
For free items, Sanitation schedules the collection after the request. Residents should place Special Pick-Up items where their normal trash is collected: alley if the property uses alley collection, curb if it uses curb collection.
Brush and recycling sites
St. Petersburg operates five brush/recycling sites where City residents can drop off selected yard waste, recyclable material and appliances. Proof of residency is required at the entrance.
These sites are not general-purpose bulky-item dumps. Furniture, electronics, mattresses and springs are excluded from the brush-site stream under the City's rules. Use Special Pick-Up or another appropriate disposal route for those items.
Paint and household hazardous waste
Household chemicals should not enter normal trash or the brush sites. Pinellas County operates the Household Hazardous Waste Center at 2855 109th Avenue N., St. Petersburg. Current County guidance makes the service available to Pinellas households with proof of residency.
The HHW program handles paint products, gasoline, oils, rechargeable batteries, pesticides and other listed household chemicals. Because accepted materials and event schedules can change, check the County's current item list before transporting a large load.
05 What the City currently accepts
The current City Special Pick-Up page explicitly lists up to five car tires as free pickup items. That local rule controls over generic disposal assumptions.
The City also explicitly lists up to five car batteries. Check the current City list before treating either item as ordinary trash or sending it to a different program.
