Winston-Salem trash & bulky-item rules

Winston-Salem provides one annual neighborhood bulky-item cleanup for eligible single-family homes. The current 2026 City page tells residents to place accepted items out during the weekend before their scheduled collection week.

Who qualifies matters. Eligible single-family residences; neighborhood collection period varies.

Appliances, carpet, furniture, mattresses and toys are listed as collectible. Construction material, electronics, hazardous waste, tires, lumber, yard waste and several other categories are excluded. Crews make one pass through each neighborhood.

Outside the annual collection, residents can use the Hanes Mill Road Landfill at 325 W. Hanes Mill Road. The City lists Monday–Friday hours of 7 a.m.–4:30 p.m. and Saturday hours of 8 a.m.–noon.

Use the City address lookup to find your 2026 collection week and place accepted items out during the weekend before that week. Do not mix bulky items with yard waste, brush or recyclables.

1. Confirm the service address and the agency or hauler responsible for it.
2. Check whether the bulky route requires an appointment, assigned week, sticker, fee or volume limit.
