Omaha trash & bulky-item rules
Omaha does not run a normal curbside oversized-item route. City residents instead get subsidized bulky disposal at River City Transfer, with up to four subsidized loads per calendar year.

Quick answer
Omaha is different from many large cities on this site: oversized junk generally does not go next to the cart for city pickup. Wasteline’s bulky program is a self-haul subsidy at River City Transfer for residents inside Omaha city limits. Each household may use up to four subsidized loads per calendar year. At the first visit of the year, the current program charges a $15 administrative fee that provides four dump vouchers.
A typical car load under two cubic yards uses one voucher; a pickup, van or trailer load under five cubic yards typically uses two. Very heavy loads can incur an additional scale charge. Bring the required proof of Omaha residency and ask for the City cost-share program before dumping.
Furniture, mattresses and household bulky material
River City Transfer’s subsidized program accepts furniture, mattresses, bicycles, boxes, lumber, drywall, small quantities of manageable concrete and other listed household cleanup material. Loads must be covered during transport, and the facility requires safety equipment when you are outside the vehicle unloading.
Because this is a drop-off program rather than curbside collection, residents are responsible for transporting and unloading the items. If you cannot self-haul, use a private service rather than leaving furniture beside the garbage cart.
Appliances, tires and seasonal cleanup events
Appliances and tires are specifically excluded from the subsidized bulky program. Omaha uses separate seasonal collection events and other disposal routes for those items. The 2026 tire program, for example, uses designated event dates and limits the number and type of tires accepted.
Spring and Fall Cleanup events can also accept certain large household items and electronics at designated sites, but the accepted list changes by event. Treat those events as a seasonal bonus, not as a substitute for the year-round River City bulky program.
Paint, chemicals and electronics
Household hazardous waste such as paint, solvents, auto fluids and lawn chemicals does not belong at River City Transfer under the bulky subsidy. Wasteline directs those materials to UnderTheSink, Omaha’s household hazardous-waste program.
Electronics can appear on seasonal Cleanup accepted lists, including televisions, but not every Omaha disposal site takes them year-round. Check the current Wasteline event or special-waste page before transporting a TV or monitor.
