Quick answer

Mesa’s bulk-item program is scheduled and fee-based; it is not an automatic neighborhood pile pickup. For current City of Mesa trash and recycling customers, a standard load is approximately 4 feet × 8 feet × 4 feet, with a maximum of four loads per scheduled collection. The current city price starts at $31 per load for Mesa trash/recycling customers. Other customers have a higher published starting price.

Eligibility matters in HOAs and multi-unit communities because the property may use a private or shared waste provider. Check the utility account or property manager before assuming the City bulk program serves the address.

02

Furniture, mattresses, TVs and yard material

Mesa lists furniture, mattresses, bed frames, box springs, toilets, wheelbarrows, small household items and prepared yard debris among eligible bulk items. TVs are also on the accepted bulk list, with the city describing one large TV or a few small TVs as an example of an acceptable load.

Items should be prepared to the city’s size and weight rules. Bundled or individual items over the published weight threshold may be ineligible, and loose material that falls into a prohibited category will not become acceptable just because it fits inside the load dimensions.

03

Appliances are a separate program

Refrigerators, stoves, washers and other appliances do not belong in Mesa’s ordinary bulk-item pickup. They use the City’s Appliance Recycling Program. The current curbside appliance price for a Mesa customer starts at $19 per appliance, with an additional refrigerant-removal charge for units containing Freon.

Mesa residents may also bring a limited number of appliances to the Household Hazardous Materials facility at no additional charge under the current city rules. Check the appliance page for preparation requirements, especially refrigerator/freezer door and food-removal instructions.

04

Tires, paint, construction debris and landfill loads

Tires, hazardous liquids, paint, batteries, propane tanks and construction or remodeling materials are prohibited from ordinary bulk pickup. Mesa routes household hazardous material and limited tires through its HHM facility. Construction material such as cabinets, tile, brick, concrete, drywall, lumber, doors and bathtubs needs another disposal route.

For qualifying City customers with a larger self-haul load, Mesa’s Landfill Use Program currently allows one load up to 2,000 pounds per calendar month for a $15 program fee at participating facilities. Proof of eligibility and current utility-account information are required.
