01

Quick answer

Baton Rouge separates ordinary cart garbage from out-of-cart waste. The out-of-cart route is collected weekly for eligible residential service areas and is intended for material generated by the resident, not commercial dumping.

Use the current collection day/address information so the pile is out only when the route is expected.

The weekly out-of-cart total is ten items, including no more than three bulky/recyclable items. Buildings larger than a triplex must have dumpster service; do not apply the household cart allowance to a larger apartment building.

02

Furniture, mattresses and household bulky material

Bulky examples listed by the City-Parish include furniture, large household items, mattresses, water heaters and white goods/appliances.

Keep loose yard waste/woody waste arranged as instructed so it does not interfere with bulky collection.

Leave bulky items unbagged and keep household bulk separate from leaf/grass bags and woody debris. Brush bundles must be no longer than five feet, with limbs no more than six inches in diameter and bundles no heavier than forty pounds.

03

Appliances, electronics, tires and hazardous items

The current City-Parish list includes tires, lawnmowers, appliances, furniture and mattresses. That does not authorize e-waste, batteries, paint or chemicals in the out-of-cart pile; those use separate disposal programs. Confirm tire quantity and appliance/equipment preparation with 311.

Remove fluids/fuel from equipment when the City requires it before collection.

04

Renovation debris and larger cleanouts

Construction debris and contractor waste should not be assumed to qualify as resident-generated out-of-cart bulky waste. Use an authorized disposal route for remodeling loads.

Check the City-Parish page if you have a mixed pile because material categories can be collected differently.

The City-Parish advertises household hazardous-material collections in spring and fall, rather than a standing daily HHW drop-off. Use the current event page for date, location and accepted material; business waste is excluded. Its electronics guidance lists separate providers, including CACRC at 225-379-3577, whose acceptance and fees should be confirmed before a visit.
