Quick answer

Richmond’s normal bulk route follows the recycling-week cycle. Place accepted material at the collection point the night before the assigned trash day.

If the biweekly collection is missed, the City asks for a report by Saturday of the second recycling week. Call 311 or use RVA311; do not substitute an end-of-first-week deadline.

02

Furniture, mattresses and household bulky material

Furniture and other eligible household bulky items use the biweekly route. Keep the material accessible and separated from prohibited project debris.

The expedited bulk option is $100 per request, with payment by check or money order before the twenty-four-hour service. Appliances have a separate $50-per-item requested collection; do not include one in the ordinary bulk expectation.

03

Appliances, electronics, tires and hazardous items

Appliances use a separate paid collection option under current City rules. Tires, paint, gas/propane and other special materials are not ordinary bulk.

Use Richmond’s current waste guide or convenience centers for those items.

04

Renovation debris and larger cleanouts

Carpet, bricks, drywall, construction material, auto parts and similar project debris are excluded from normal bulk.

City residents can self-haul accepted bulk/brush to designated convenience locations; verify facility limits before bringing a large load.
