Buffalo trash & bulky-item rules
Buffalo’s current curbside program allows up to three bulky items per week beside the trash tote for eligible properties. The City’s Bulk Trash page limits eligibility to owner-occupied one- or two-family properties held in the owner’s name, and excludes electronics, tires, hazardous waste and construction debris.

Quick answer
Buffalo’s weekly program allows up to three bulk items at eligible properties. Each must be a single cohesive item no larger than 12 feet × 3 feet × 3 feet; removing drawers can turn one piece into several items for counting purposes.
The City’s current Bulk Trash page states that eligible properties are owner-occupied one- or two-family homes, held in the owner’s name rather than an LLC or corporation. Renters, larger buildings and company-owned properties should not assume the weekly City bulk benefit applies; ask 311 for the correct route.
Furniture, mattresses and household bulky material
Furniture and other household bulky items can use the weekly allowance when each piece meets the City’s dimensional rule. A cohesive item should not exceed roughly twelve feet long by three feet by three feet.
Do not break a huge cleanout into an uncontrolled curb pile and call it three items.
Set out starting at 7 p.m. the evening before collection, next to the ordinary refuse location without blocking the sidewalk. Keep the three-item count accurate, including separate drawers.
Appliances, electronics, tires and hazardous items
The City’s accepted list includes mattresses, stoves and refrigerators. TVs, computers, paint, tires, hazardous waste and construction/demolition debris are excluded from weekly curb bulk. Confirm refrigerator preparation when arranging a disposal route.
Eligible owner-occupied residents also have a transfer-station benefit for a limited amount of waste each year under current City rules.
Renovation debris and larger cleanouts
Construction and demolition material is explicitly excluded from curb bulk. Renovation waste needs a proper disposal facility or private service.
If an item is not clearly household furniture, check Buffalo’s bulk page before set-out.
Local drop-off options and fees
Resident drop-off is eligibility-limited; bring required owner/residency proof.
The East Side Transfer Station at 793 South Ogden Street offers one ton per year to qualifying owner-occupied one- or two-family properties held in a personal name, not an LLC or corporation. Bring driver’s license and utility proof; confirm remaining allowance, current hours and the material before traveling.
Before set-out
- Verify the service address. Confirm that City of Buffalo Department of Public Works or its listed provider actually serves the property.
