Reno trash & bulky-item rules
Reno uses Waste Management for residential trash rather than a City-run bulky route. Current City benefits include excess-waste stickers and limited free transfer-station trips, while periodic City cleanup events provide another route for residential bulky material.

Quick answer
Reno’s official solid-waste page directs residents to Waste Management for account service and bulky questions. There is not one universal municipal curbside bulk day that applies independently of the WM account.
The City lists twenty excess-waste stickers per year and four free transfer-station trips as current residential benefits, which can be useful for material that will not fit in the regular cart.
Furniture, mattresses and household bulky material
For furniture and mattresses, check the WM account/service options first. City cleanup events can also accept qualifying residential bulky items on announced dates.
Do not assume an event is a year-round drop-off; use the current 2026 event page for date and accepted material.
Each stickered extra bag, box or bundle must meet WM’s published limits: 32-gallon bags and no more than 4 feet × 4 feet × 4 feet or 50 pounds. Place it beside the cart for the normal collection; a sofa exceeding those limits is a self-haul or separately arranged item.
Appliances, electronics, tires and hazardous items
Keep electronics and household hazardous waste out of WM trash/recycling carts. Ordinary ward cleanups also exclude HHW and e-waste. A separately announced special event may accept them, but the September 26, 2026 event has already passed; check a new event’s actual accepted list.
WM offers household hazardous waste disposal for an additional fee. Call 775-329-8822 for the accepted material, receiving site and price; do not assume it is included in the four ordinary transfer loads.
Renovation debris and larger cleanouts
Construction debris may require transfer-station disposal or another paid service. Use the WM/City facility rules to determine what a residential free trip covers.
For an oversized cleanup, compare the account’s transfer benefit with any current City event before hiring a private junk service.
Local drop-off options and fees
Confirm the Reno pickup date, item limits and preparation rules before setting anything out.
The included transfer benefit is one truckload per visit, four visits a year. Show a recent WM bill or matching ID and keep the account paid. Tenants and people hauling for another account holder need written permission using WM’s form.
Commercial Row Transfer Station is at 1390 East Commercial Row, Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–5 p.m., and weekends, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Stead Transfer Station is at 13890 Mt. Anderson Street, Tuesday–Saturday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. WM lists card/check payment rather than cash; check holiday closures.
Before set-out
