Colorado Springs trash & bulky-item rules
Colorado Springs does not operate municipal household waste collection. City Code puts regular removal responsibility on the property owner, so furniture, mattresses and appliances follow the rules of your private hauler or a private disposal facility.

Quick answer
Colorado Springs is another major exception to the usual municipal bulky-pickup model. City Code § 6.4.102 says the City does not collect or remove ordinary waste except in emergencies or designated cleanup days. Section 6.4.103 makes the property owner responsible for providing minimum waste service or for an approved self-disposal arrangement, with waste removed at least weekly.
As a result, there is no single citywide “couch day” or municipal bulky-item fee. Your private trash-hauler contract controls whether furniture, mattresses, appliances or extra bags can be picked up at the curb, whether advance scheduling is required, and what fee applies.
Furniture, mattresses and appliances
For a couch, mattress, refrigerator or other oversized household item, contact the private hauler serving the property before putting it out. Some haulers include a limited bulky service; others require a paid appointment or direct residents to a transfer station. Apartment and HOA contracts can differ from single-family subscriptions.
Do not copy a neighbor’s set-out method unless you know you have the same hauler and service plan. The City code sets the obligation to dispose of waste properly, but it does not create one municipal bulky program for every household.
Paint, chemicals and household hazardous waste
El Paso County operates a household hazardous-waste facility at 3255 Akers Drive for eligible El Paso and Teller County households. Proof of residency is required. The facility accepts many paints, stains, household chemicals, batteries and other hazardous materials under published quantity rules.
That facility is not a general junk dump: it does not accept furniture, mattresses, appliances, ordinary trash or construction material. Keep those items with your private hauler or another legal disposal facility.
Electronics and tires
The El Paso County HHW program accepts listed electronics, but size limits apply to TVs and some devices. Larger TVs and tires are routed to the County’s designated Clean Sweep events rather than the regular HHW facility. Check the current event page before traveling with a large television or tires.
Because the Colorado Springs system is decentralized, the safest rule is category-by-category: private hauler for ordinary household/bulky waste, County HHW for listed hazardous material and eligible electronics, and a lawful private facility for construction or other excluded material.
