Quick answer

Jersey City’s current Bulk/Special Disposal guidelines direct residents to call the Department of Public Works at 201-547-4400 to schedule a bulk-waste pickup. Ordinary residential bulk is limited to four items per collection day.

The same City guidance says curbside trash is collected twice weekly and gives the normal night-before set-out window as 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Follow the appointment instructions DPW gives for the scheduled bulk collection.

02

Furniture, mattresses and household bulky material

Furniture and mattresses are included in the City’s bulk guidance, with a maximum of four bulk items per collection day. Mattresses must be wrapped in plastic before curbside set-out. Call DPW at 201-547-4400 to schedule the pickup and follow the set-out instructions given for your address.

03

Appliances, electronics, tires and hazardous items

White goods, including refrigerators, air conditioners, stoves, washers and dryers, and e-waste such as TVs and computers require a separate DPW appointment at 201-547-4400. Household hazardous waste uses separate disposal arrangements.

Call DPW for televisions, air conditioners or other special items so the correct program is used.

04

Renovation debris and larger cleanouts

Construction debris is not ordinary household bulk. Use the City’s sanitation guidance or a properly authorized disposal/hauling route for renovation material rather than adding project debris to a scheduled furniture pickup.
