Newark trash & bulky-item rules
Newark has one monthly bulk collection for each zone: the first Wednesday for Zone A and the second Wednesday for Zone B. The limit is ten bulky items per residence; white goods require a separate appointment and electronics use the DPW drop-off.

Quick answer
Newark residents should start by identifying the address’s bulk zone. Under the current DPW schedule, Zone A uses the first Wednesday of the month and Zone B uses the second Wednesday.
The household limit is up to ten bulk items per residence. Put out only eligible items and use the City’s current set-out timing for the zone.
Furniture, mattresses and household bulky material
Accepted examples include couches, tables, chairs, mattresses and dressers. Those are discrete household items; a loose renovation pile is not equivalent to ten pieces of furniture.
Keep the collection area clear so the City crew can access the items.
The DPW accepted-items list limits mattresses to three, and they must be covered. These are part of the ten-item limit, not an additional allowance.
Appliances, electronics, tires and hazardous items
All white goods, including refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers and air conditioners, require an appointment through DPW at 973-733-3644. Do not put them out as unscheduled ordinary bulk.
Electronics may be dropped at 62 Frelinghuysen Avenue, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Tires, auto parts, paint and other prohibited hazardous materials do not belong in monthly bulk.
Renovation debris and larger cleanouts
Construction and demolition debris such as drywall, roofing material, glass/windows and similar project waste is not accepted as normal Newark bulk.
Use an authorized construction-waste facility or hauler for that material.
