Quick answer
Alexandria City-served homes have weekly refuse and separate special handling for some large items and appliances.
Before you use the rule: Generally detached single-family homes, duplexes and certain townhouses with four or fewer units that receive City collection.
Furniture, mattresses and appliances
For City-served homes, large appliances are handled separately. Residents can arrange a special appliance pickup through Resource Recovery at 703-746-4410; the City says a $20 service fee may apply. Refrigerant-containing appliances instead go through the Colvin Street HHW route.
Household hazardous waste and other special material
Household hazardous waste and electronics use the City facility at 3224 Colvin Street. Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers containing refrigerant are accepted there because they need special refrigerant handling.
Where to take large items in Alexandria
City residents can self-haul qualifying metal/non-metal items; refrigerant appliances use the City special route.
