Chesapeake trash & bulky-item rules
Chesapeake requires a bulk request before collection: phone by 5 p.m. on the preceding workday or submit online by 11:59 p.m. the day before. Household and yard piles have different limits and must be separated.

Quick answer
Bulk pickup is for current City Waste Management customers. Phone 757-382-2489 by 5 p.m. on the preceding workday, or submit the online request by 11:59 p.m. on the calendar day before collection. These deadlines differ on weekends.
Use one booking and describe every material, but separate household and yard piles physically. Household bulk allows twelve collections annually and a 10-foot-long × 4-foot-wide × 4-foot-high pile per week. Yard bulk has no annual count limit and a 6-foot-long × 4-foot-wide × 4-foot-high weekly pile.
Furniture, mattresses and household bulky material
Accepted household bulky items should be placed separately from yard waste and where collection equipment can reach them.
Keep the pile away from parked vehicles, mailboxes, overhead lines and other obstacles.
Set out no more than three workdays early, at least three feet from obstructions and clear of overhead wires, traffic, sidewalks and drainage. Remove refrigerator/freezer doors and thoroughly tape glass surfaces.
Appliances, electronics, tires and hazardous items
Tires and certain other special materials are excluded from ordinary bulk. Electronics, paint and household hazardous waste also follow separate City programs.
Use Chesapeake’s item-specific disposal resources before set-out.
Renovation debris and larger cleanouts
Fencing, carpet, pallets and construction/demolition debris are among materials not treated as normal household bulk.
For a renovation or contractor cleanup, use an approved debris facility or private hauler.
Contractor yard debris is excluded. Resident limbs must be no longer than six feet and six inches in diameter. Leaves/grass can use regular collection without a bulk request: up to thirty 35-gallon clear bags weekly, rising to fifty in November/December; the bulk page also allows paper compostable bags.
Local drop-off options and fees
Confirm the Chesapeake pickup date, item limits and preparation rules before setting anything out.
SPSA’s Chesapeake HHW/e-waste program is at 901 Hollowell Lane, first Wednesday and third Saturday monthly, 9 a.m.–noon. Bring driver’s license or service-area residence proof. Daily limits are five gallons of liquid or seventy-five pounds of solid HHW and five e-waste items; business HHW is excluded.
Ordinary residential transfer access has a different schedule: Monday 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m.–noon; Chesapeake-only access also includes Wednesday 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Saturday noon–4 p.m. and Sunday noon–4 p.m. Tires go to the Regional Landfill tire facility, 1 Bob Foeller Drive in Suffolk, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m., not the transfer station.
SPSA’s fee sheet distinguishes qualifying resident services billed to the member city from personally chargeable loads. Confirm load eligibility first; do not treat the member-city billing rates as a resident cash fee. When payment is required, SPSA accepts major credit cards, not cash, checks or money orders.
Before set-out
